what. a. day!
we had a doctor's appointment this morning and my blood pressure was quite high, even after laying on my left side to take it again. so my dr. came in and sent me over to labor and delivery (his office is in the hospital) so they could monitor me for a few hours. after i had been resting for about 30 minutes, my blood pressure was even lower than a normal reading. they did some blood work, too, and that turned out fine. alas, no baby born today! but when my doctor came in to check on me, we had a little chat and determined a few things. 1- most likely jonah will be born at the end of next week or the beginning of the week after that- subject to change based on his findings and opinions. 2- i will definitely be getting a c-section, because my bones apparently were not made to push a baby out. his words. he said even if i was having a 6 pound baby, i'd have to have a c-section. (this baby is already over 6 pounds... in fact, if i had to go till my due date, he would be about 12 pounds. omg.) i guess i am built like my mom!
now before anyone starts doling out advice or opinions on the best way to have a baby, let me remind you that this is not my choice. these things are happening based on my doctor's professional opinion, which i completely trust. this is what is best for me and the baby. i know the pros and cons of regular birth versus cesarian birth; and there's no reason to dwell on anything other than what is going to happen with me. on monday at our next appointment, i'll have another sonogram, and then he is going to give us a date that we will not go past.
i also had a baby shower today! matt's company, deloitte, threw us a very sweet and generous shower, complete with sprinkles cupcakes!! mmmm!! (i had permission from my doctor to go.) matt really works with such a wonderful group of people. they are all pretty hilarious, and it was good to laugh.
with such a busy day, though, i definitely wore myself out. allison and reese are going to come over to eat dinner with us and share some leftover cupcakes with us. then i think we'll settle down to a low key evening and watch our thursday shows. everything good comes on on thursdays!! the office, community, grey's anatomy (which i like more than matt), the apprentice, and outsourced (which matt likes more than me).
